Digital comics platform comiXology, which was acquired by Amazon in April, announced Thursday at Comic Con that it will let users download DRM-free backups of titles from participating publishers, so that they can store and read them offline.
After purchase, eligible comics can be downloaded as PDF or CBZ (a compressed format for comic books) files. ComiXology's DRM-free store is here. The leading comic book publishers, Marvel and DC, aren't making their titles available DRM-free. But smaller publishers - including Image Comics, Dynamite Entertainment and MonkeyBrain Comics
