Warehouse Practices: How Do Yours Measure Up?
Interested publishers can apply on the BISG Web site until April 1 to participate in the current (2006–2007) research cycle. The greater the number of publishers who enroll, the more useful the peer-group comparisons will be.
When BISG first partnered with Georgia Tech in 2004 to develop the project, James Benjamin of Baker and Taylor, then chair of BISG’s Distribution Executives Interest Group (DEIG), said, “Our goal was to answer the age-old question, ‘Are we using the right amounts of the right resources to achieve the right service levels at minimum cost?’”
Eugene G. Schwartz is editor at large for ForeWord Reviews, an industry observer and an occasional columnist for Book Business magazine. In an earlier career, he was in the printing business and held production management positions at Random House, Prentice-Hall/Goodyear and CRM Books/Psychology Today. A former PMA (IBPA) board member, he has headed his own publishing consultancy, Consortium House. He is also Co-Founder of Worthy Shorts Inc., a development stage online private press and publication service for professionals as well as an online back office publication service for publishers and associations.
