Rekulak and Cohen Promoted at Quirk Books
May 9, 2013—Philadelphia, PA—Quirk Books associate publisher and creative director Jason Rekulak has been promoted to publisher, and vice president Brett Cohen has been promoted to president, effective immediately.
Both Rekulak and Cohen have been key members since joining Quirk. During his 13-year tenure, Rekulak has acquired and/or conceived some of the company’s most successful books, including the international sensation Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the #1 New York Times best seller Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and the Edgar® Award winning Last Policeman. Most recently, he launched Quirk into the middle-grade fiction genre with the Tales from Lovecraft Middle School series and Nick & Tesla’s High-Voltage Danger Lab, an upcoming BEA Middle Grade Editors’ Buzz selection. As publisher, Rekulak will continue to be primarily responsible for Quirk’s varied list, overseeing acquisitions, editorial, and design.
In his 12 years at Quirk, Cohen has been integral in the evolution of the business side to showcase the creative endeavors. Early on, he developed and implemented the financial and operational systems that led to Quirk’s innovative, transparent, and stable company culture. More recently, he redefined the consumer marketing strategy that launched the company’s best sellers. He has been the driving force behind Quirk’s digital program, which just released its first interactive enhanced e-book. In his new role as president, Cohen will continue to be responsible for operations, finance, production, marketing, and digital and will now take responsibility for sales oversight.
David Borgenicht will assume the role of owner/CEO of Quirk Productions (the parent company of Quirk Books), with a focus on development partnerships in film, television, and digital media.
Borgenicht says, “Individually, Jason and Brett have brought their passion, ingenuity, and leadership to Quirk. Together, they have been the key players behind our ongoing growth and success. Jason and Brett fully embrace and embody Quirk’s mission to develop the most strikingly unconventional projects and bring them to market in a commercially viable manner. I’m excited to announce these promotions and what that means for the future of Quirk.”
