Bolloré Paper Division Becomes Bolloré Thin Papers
As part of our environmental approach we commissioned an external firm of consultants to carry out an LCA on 45 gsm Primapage. This is the first time that such a study has been carried out on lightweight paper.
This initiative allows us to scientifically evaluate the impact of lightweight paper on the environment by considering the entire life cycle of the paper, from the extraction of the raw materials right through to the treatment at the end of its life, so from cradle to grave”. Scientific measurements highlight our strengths and weaknesses thus allowing us to take the best decisions and put in place a programme of continuous improvement. This study, carried out in accordance with the international ISO 14040 series of standards, is currently being reviewed by a panel of independent experts. Initial results demonstrate the low impact of lightweight papers on the environment, supporting us in our measures to reduce grammages. The definitive results will be published at the end of 2008. For the first time a carbon footprint simulator, allowing the evaluation of the environmental impacts of a product over the whole of its life cycle will be available from early in 2009.
