Can Publishing Really Be Replaced by a Button?
Who needs publishers anymore, right? With all that great new technology for print and ebooks, are we just becoming obsolete?
Well I sure hope you’re all standing up and shouting “NO WAY!!!” But the fact is, we do have adjustments of one sort or another to make, and some of us are struggling to figure out how to remain relevant in a changing world.
The always-provocative Rory O’Connor takes on this topic in the opening keynote address for tomorrow’s Publishing Business Virtual Conference when he asks "Can Publishing Really Be Replaced by a Button?"
O’Connor, co-founder of the independent media firm Globalvision, Inc., is an author, filmmaker and journalist whose work centers around media and politics. He is not in the least surprised that publishing is in a state of disruption right now. To answer his question about the replaceability of publishing, he takes a look at what publishers do, what they have done in the past, and some of the things they should be doing now to ensure survival.
Tune in tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 13 at 10:15 am to hear more about O’Connor’s take on publishing past, present and future.
