Disney Publishing Worldwide Announces 1.5 Million Copy First Printing for Rick Riordan’s The Throne of Fire
(Press Release) April 14, 2011 - Disney Publishing Worldwide will launch The Kane Chronicles, Book Two: The Throne of Fire with a 1.5 million-copy first printing on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. The Red Pyramid, the first book in the series, has already sold more than one million copies since its publication in May 2010. More than 20 million books are in print in the US across Riordan's three young reader series from Disney-Hyperion Books: Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The Kane Chronicles, and The Heroes of Olympus. The books have been sold into more than 35 countries.
The Throne of Fire simultaneously releases in hardcover, as an e-book, and as an audio version through Brilliance Audio. The Kane Chronicles series is an action-packed fantasy bringing ancient Egyptian mythology to life in a vivid modern-day setting. In this exciting second installment of the three-book series, Carter and Sadie, offspring of the brilliant Egyptologist Dr. Julius Kane, embark on a worldwide search for the Book of Ra, but the House of Life and the gods of chaos are determined to stop them.
"The Kane Chronicles series became an instant hit among young readers when it launched last May," said Suzanne Murphy, vice president and publisher, Disney Publishing Worldwide. "We are thrilled to be releasing The Throne of Fire, the second title in the trilogy, for all the fans who have been waiting breathlessly for the next installment."
A brand-new chapter excerpt from Sadie's perspective is available today on the series' dedicated Web site, www.thekanechronicles.com. The first excerpt was from Carter's perspective and was released earlier this year. In conjunction with the book's release, Disney Publishing Worldwide is executing a nationwide movie theater advertising campaign, major online advertising, as well as the ultimate sweepstakes for a Riordan superfan: a chance for their likeness to be included in the final book in the series. Guests can enter for a chance to win on www.Disney.com/KaneChronicles. The grand prize winner will be uniquely featured in book three of The Kane Chronicles and will receive signed books by Rick Riordan. Thirty first prize winners will take home books signed by the author.
In support of the release of The Throne of Fire, Riordan will embark on an eight-city tour including: Princeton, NJ; S. Portland, ME; Manchester, VT; Brattlebro, VT; S. Hadley, MA; Cape Cod, MA; Rhinebeck, NY; and San Antonio, TX.
This fall, Riordan's smash hit series, The Heroes of Olympus, is back with the second book, The Son of Neptune, publishing on October 11, 2011.
