The latest Kindle, the DX, launches Wed., June 17 and reviews of Amazon's latest, largest and most expensive e-reader device are already rolling in from a number of tech gurus.
Technologizer.com's Harry McCracken points out that the 9.7-inch screen on the DX is not only considerably larger than the Kindle 2's 6-inch display, but larger than the entire 2 itself and packs twice as many words onto its screen. McCracken details a number of the $489 DX's hits and misses before ultimately advising buyers choose the cheaper Kindle 2 ($359).
Walt Mossberg's Wall Street Journal piece mostly agrees, with the reviewer saying, "for standard books, I'd stick with the smaller, more comfortable Kindle 2" while admitting the DX is probably "the killer app" for college textbooks.
James Rogers, staff reporter for TheStreet.com, offers his own take on the Kindle, and why it won't be on his shelf anytime soon.
