Just as ebooks have turned book publishing on its head, a new breed of rich media reading devices is changing the ebook paradigm. Publishers who deliver their ebooks through dedicated reading apps on iPads, Kindle Fires, Nook Tablets and the like, via platforms such as Impelsys, Inkling, MAZ and Copia, are privy to volumes of data on how their customers consume their content, from basic stuff like how many pages they've read to more granular info, such as, "Was this test-preparation chapter effective."
At the Publishing Business Virtual Conference & Expo, the panel "Ebooks: An Analytics Gold Mine," convened to discuss this brave new world where feedback loops are not only complete, but almost instantaneous.
Ghalia Bhatty, General Manager, eBooks, Scholastic Book Clubs and eCommerce at Scholastic Inc.; Andrew Brenneman, founder of Finitiv; and Matthew Cavnar, VP of Business Development for Vook addressed key topics such as:
- Collecting usage data from your digital products
- Leveraging that data to enhance your digital products
- Using analytics to inform strategic decision making
Bhatty provided a great case study on Scholastic's Storia app, and Brenneman and Cavnar discussed the strategic implications of cloud delivery and enhanced ebooks.
