Horizon StitchLiner 6000 – another key addition to Webcom's BookFWD integrated digital solutions
(Press Release) Toronto, ON, April 15, 2011 – Building on the recent announcement of two newly-installed Muller Martini bindery lines, Webcom today released market specific details about an additional investment. Webcom has installed the Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 from KBR Graphics Canada to support its new BookFWD production program. By expanding the automation and efficiency of its BookFWD platform, Webcom is able to provide publishers with multiple bookbinding options for achieving their book publishing goals.
"We purchased the Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 as an extension of our BookFWD digital technology investments," says Webcom President Mike Collinge. "As we upgraded inkjet and digital equipment, it was essential that we be able to provide our customers with a complementary saddle binding solution. The StitchLiner gives us a seamless and efficient tool to provide short-run quantities of versioned or customized products. The Horizon technology guarantees 100% binding integrity while reducing cycle time and providing fast throughput for digital print."
The StitchLiner 6000 is the highest producing saddle-stitcher in North America and the newest addition to Webcom's advanced bindery investments. Publishers signing on to the BookFWD program will benefit from the high efficiency of saddle-stitching, developed with digital printing in mind for projects of less than 100 pages. The system integrates scoring, folding, stitching, three-knife trimming, as well as the ability to collate covers and insert sheets in-line.
"We are pleased to work closely with Webcom and add a key piece of equipment to its revolutionary new BookFWD program," says Karl Belafi Jr., Vice President of Sales and Marketing at KBR Graphics. "The new Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 is a perfect complement to their comprehensive suite of digital printing capabilities."
Scoring on the StitchLiner 6000 gives a crisp, tight fold to catalogs, manuals, financial booklets, educational workbooks or trade music books. With a speed of 6,000 booklets per hour and the ability to stitch books up to 10 mm (approximately 3/8 inch) thick, publishers benefit from both the efficiency and capacity to bind a wide array of book products, with books ranging from as small as 5 ½ x 8 ½" to as large as 11 x 17" in size. The StitchLiner is equipped with two automatic cover feeding stations, which can bind jobs with both a cover and up to five insert sheets positioned anywhere in the booklet.
The StitchLiner's high degree of automation and JDF (Job Definition Format) compatibility makes set-up times short and turnarounds quick. Quality control is given high priority; checks are infused into the system through cameras and bar code readers, to ensure the integrity of the final product. "It allows us the ability to improve our quality control and job reporting to our customers...we were impressed with the quality of the entire Standard Horizon team including their expert training and technology," added Mike Collinge about Webcom's latest investment in new technology.
