Installation of New Equipment at Sheridan Books Brings New Capabilities
[PRESS RELEASE] Chelsea, MI – With the addition of several new pieces of printing equipment, Sheridan Books, Inc. has rounded out its print service offering to include digital inkjet capabilities as well as offset, and digital toner based printing. Each piece of equipment installed brings new capabilities to Sheridan Books and ultimately more efficient print solutions to publishers.
The centerpiece of this expansion is a Hewlett Packard T-360 inkjet web press. This new press offers the ability to print short run titles (from 200 to 2,000) more efficiently therefore increasing publisher’s speed to market while providing a product that rivals offset quality. Tim Cotter, Vice President of Operations at Sheridan Books states “With the inkjet platform, our short run customers can also better manage inventories and eliminate overhead from warehousing and unsold books by ordering smaller quantities as needed.”
Sheridan Books also installed a Timsons T-Fold to the inkjet line, making Sheridan Books the first printer in the United States capable of delivering high page count color text signatures or book blocks from a digital press that can then be bound as Smyth sewn books. Cotter comments “Unlike most toner based solutions, our new inkjet press has been set up to accept a variety of paper options. By pairing the press with the folder, Sheridan offers an extensive complement of binding and paper combinations. The benefit to publishers – they no longer need to downgrade the design of their short run titles to fit the limited capabilities of traditional digital print manufactures.”
Finally, Sheridan Books installed a new MGI Meteor DP8700XL digital toner press for printing covers. The press has been profiled to match ISO standards through Gracol G7 methodology. Sheridan Books will produce live proofs right from the press and laminate the cover, dust jacket, or printed case proofs with the lamination that will be used in the production of the job prior to sending to publishers for approval. “This feature – the ability to provide laminated proofs – will allow our customers to see the exact quality they will receive on their finished books” states Cotter.
The ability to print titles on the platform that is most efficient, be it offset or digital, while continuing to offer a variety of bind styles and paper options, uniquely positions Sheridan Books as leader in print solutions for short to medium run publishers.
