Major Studies Offer Information for You, Not Just Your Business
Book Business’ mission is to provide practical information to help you do your job better and improve your company’s bottom line. But, we also aim to provide information to help you advance your career. We do this through certain features and departments, and now, we are doing this by conducting two major studies.
The first study is the “2007 Book Publishing Industry Salary Guide,” and the results are published in this issue. A couple of industry organizations provide salary information, but much of it is segment-specific, e.g., for the university press segment only. Other information is quite costly to obtain. We wanted to provide a salary benchmark for executives in every segment—for free. (See page 20 for the full story.)
‘Best Publishing Companies to Work For’
The second major study that we’re doing this year is a rating of the “Best Publishing Companies to Work For.” The list will help publishing executives better evaluate potential job opportunities. We also expect it to provide other publishing companies with a better understanding of what creates a positive work environment and how they can improve employee job satisfaction and morale.
The research for this study is being conducted by independent publishing research firm Accelara and is in its early stages. Many Book Business readers (those for whom we have an e-mail address on file) will receive by e-mail in the next few weeks a confidential questionnaire to rate their respective companies. In addition, a dedicated Web page will be set up
(Books.AccelaraResearch.com) to enable participation by others who don’t receive the questionnaire directly. We are hoping to have the Web page set up by the time this issue is in your hands. The results will be published in the October issue of Book Business magazine.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the “Salary Guide” research. And thanks in advance to all of you who will participate in rating the “Best Publishing Companies to Work For.” It’s exciting to be a part of these landmark studies and to share the results with you.
