Nook Media LLC announced in several press releases yesterday that it is offering free digital content to users across Europe when they download the Nook app for Windows 8.1. Nook Media has extended this offer to users in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
In an attempt to expand its digital content platform internationally, Nook Media will provide free ebooks, such as Il richiamo della foresta by Jack London and free magazine titles, like the latest issues of National Geographic Italia and Cosmopolitan. According to the press releases, Nook now operates in 32 countries and in 21 languages. It remains to be seen whether these international efforts will bolster Barnes & Noble's flagging domestic sales.
