(Press Release) NEW YORK, NY, and AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS—On Demand Books is pleased to announce the installation of the first Espresso Book Machine in continental Europe. Located at the famed American Book Center in Amsterdam, which was recently named among the twenty-five most beautiful bookstores or libraries in the world, the Espresso Book Machine is ideal for a multilingual populace and enables unprecedented opportunities for retail self publishing.
Essentially an ATM for books, the patented EBM and its EspressNet software system, which connects physical machines to a vast network of content, enables the instant distribution of books, on demand, at point of need. With the push of a button, the technology prints, binds, and trims a bookstore-quality, perfect-bound paperback book, in any language, with a full-color cover, all in a few minutes while the customer waits. It is an environmentally friendly technology since it eliminates shipping, returns, and the pulping of unwanted books.
"We are delighted to bring our technology to continental Europe, particularly via the American Book Center, which is an extraordinary bookstore," says Dane Neller, the CEO of On Demand Books. "Our technology not only fulfils a multilingual need but powers a new self-publishing business model, since the American Book Center will use our machine to offer their customers on-demand self publishing. Our technology is becoming much more than a machine: It is a tool to enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction."
"We're excited to be able to fulfill our customers' book wishes more quickly and completely using the Espresso Book Machine and EspressNet. We hope to facilitate self publishing in any language supported by graphic designers, copy editors, and other word-craft professionals from our local community," says American Book Center director Lynn Kaplanian-Buller.
EBMs are installed or scheduled for installation in 53 locations in the United States and around the world. In addition, Xerox and On Demand Books recently announced a partnership whereby Xerox will market, sell or lease, and service the EBM worldwide. Through this partnership, EBM installations are expected to accelerate throughout 2011.
