Press Release: Children’s Book Being Sold to Help First Grader Battle Kidney Failure
ODENTON, Md.—January 13, 2016—What started out as a normal book printing job for Gasch Printing has now turned into something much bigger and more important. Caden Curtin, a 7-year-old girl, who with the help of her twin sister, cousin and an illustrator from Gasch Printing was able to make a children’s story she wrote titled “Adventures in the Woods” a reality by printing her hard cover book at Gasch Printing. After Caden’s family and friends joined her for a release party at Gasch in late December where they were able to tour the book printing facility and see the final binding of her book being done she came up with another remarkable idea.
After receiving the final books, the 7-year-old first grader at Parr's Ridge Elementary School in Mt Airy, Maryland decided to sell her books and give 100% of the profits to an ailing classmate who is fighting for her life with potential kidney failure. Her classmate Aubrey was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, Tethered Spinal Cord and neurogenic bladder and bowel.
She has gone through brain surgery, spine surgery, bowel surgery and recently went through bladder surgery. At a recent doctor's visit in New York City to see Aubrey's urologist they found out Aubrey is having grade 3 reflux into her kidneys and that this will require another major surgery. Along with an expected 3 month long hospital stay for this new surgery in NYC will come major medical costs and housing costs. When Caden heard the family is asking for help financially to help pay for this trip to save Aubrey's kidneys she wanted to help by selling her books and giving 100% of the profits to Aubrey’s treatment fund. Once people began to hear about Caden’s book and the cause she was selling them for she immediately sold out and even sold one copy for $200 to help this cause.
Gasch is now working with Caden again on printing more copies where they have agreed to not charge Caden any money for the first printing, the illustrating costs, or the new printing so that 100% of the money received by selling the books will go to Aubrey’s medical expenses. Gasch has also agreed to match all proceeds from the book dollar for dollar to double the amount to help this brave little girl get the treatment she needs.
Aubrey’s family has set up a GoFundMe account here https://dm2.gofund.me/ws8d2bt3 for those who are able to help this little girl continue her treatment.
