Publishers & Printers Team Up to Streamline Digital Printing
As publishers increase their investment in digital printing, the need to more deeply collaborate with printing partners becomes imperative. Digital printing enables publishers to print shorter book runs and more accurately meet consumer demand. But that also means more frequent transactions with book manufacturers and a need for better order management. On top of that, publishers need to know that the digital files they send to printers can be quickly and accurately translated into the print book.
When John Wiley & Sons ramped up its digital printing a few years ago, it decided to address these issues with one of its core partners Courier, later acquired by R.R. Donnelley and now a part of LSC Communications. The publisher and manufacturer developed an automated order management system that could speed up production times and reduce costs on both sides. Wiley and Courier also laid the foundation for a title management system that would automatically send book updates and files to the manufacturer for printing.
At the Digital Book Printing Conference on November 17th in New York City, Wiley’s global digital print manager Lynn Terhune and LSC Communications senior IT business analyst Diane Degener will discuss how this unique partnership came to be and how it has reduced costs significantly for both organizations. They will share the importance of standards like XBITS to simplify order management workflows and describe why training is key to a successful data transfer initiative.
The Digital Book Printing Conference is a one-day event that will attract over 100 book publishers, manufacturers, and equipment suppliers to learn more about digital book printing opportunities and trends. Now in its third year, the conference will feature insights from procurement experts, industry analysts, and book publishers that are optimizing their book production and distribution with digital printing and workflow technology.
