Random House Audio Partners With Community Carshares to Promote Audiobooks
(Press Release) NEW YORK, NY—Bestsellers from favorite authors are now available in more formats than ever—and many book lovers are choosing to listen to audiobooks.
Accessible from anywhere, easy to take on the go and as simple as downloading a song, audiobooks are the perfect companion for any multi-tasker with busy hands and an idle mind. Since many audiobook users listen while in the car, Random House is partnering with carshares in nine cities across the country to offer their members the chance to take audiobooks for a test drive.
Carshares provide a money saving and ecologically friendly service to urbanites. They afford members the convenience of renting a car by the hour from a fleet of vehicles right in their neighborhood without the hassle of car payments, gas, insurance, and finding a parking spot. They’re also a great way to conserve resources: each shared vehicle replaces up to 15 individually owned cars.
Starting Earth Day (April 22), these carshare members will also be able to enjoy another perk—free audiobooks! By visiting www.randomhouseaudio.com/carshare, members can download free full-length recordings from popular authors like David Rakoff, Tami Hoag, Luanne Rice, Rick Riordan and Kate DiCamillo, as well as find suggested listening for long and short drives. Additionally, fleet vehicles will be stocked with CD mixes of audiobook clips from bestselling titles—a sure way to make any drive more entertaining.
The carshares, including organizations in San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Boulder, Denver, Buffalo, Ithaca, NY and Burlington, VT, will share news about the promotion via email blasts, social media, their websites, and contests. To kick off the partnerships in the participating cities, Random House Audio authors will host events at local bookstores. Confirmed events include Kelly Corrigan in Denver, CO April 6, Elizabeth Berg in Chicago, IL on April 28 ,Chris Bohjalian in Burlington, VT on April 20, and Cory Doctorow in San Francisco, CA (date to come).
