Stick It!

I have been spending a fortune lately on duct tape, which, as many of you probably know, is now available in a multitude of lively colors and patterns. Why the heavy investment in this sticky stuff? My children are obsessed! They have learned to make a surprising array of items—some even functional—out of duct tape: ties, belts, wallets, cups, boxes… the list, apparently, is endless. (My youngest did suggest duct tape underwear, but luckily we talked him out of that.)

Leisure Arts publishers is just in with two new entries to this burgeoning field of artistic endeavor, Just Duct Tape It! and Go Crazy With Duct Tape (We are! We are!). There are so many colorful and creative projects in these two books that, if my kids get a hold of them, I’ll have to buy duct tape by the case!

When the publishers told me about these new books, just to give them some practice, I asked if they would make something for us here in the Publishing Business Group. We decided that Book Business magazine should have a bookmark, and they kindly obliged with the colorful piece you see in the photo. The fringe is impressively detailed, and I love the beading on the top, along with the inspiring tag: “reading takes you places you thought you would never go.” Like, for example, back to Target to buy more duct tape.
