STM publisher Springer and Beijing Normal University Press (BNUP) will co-publish a new book series IHDP-Integrated Risk Governance Project Series. The agreements for the first seven titles of this series were signed by Derk Haank, CEO Springer Science+Business Media, and Prof. Geng Yang, CEO of BNUP, at this year’s London Book Fair.
This week will see the launch of a revolution in printing that may turn out to be as significant as the invention of the Gutenberg printing press - if entrepreneurs and analysts are to be believed.
Visitors to drupa 2012 will see a number of rival technologies launched, each of which promises to deliver a "second digital revolution in printing" that will allow the digital printer to kill off the offset press for commercial printing, and may even allow the printed page to compete with the iPad.
In late 2011 Springer Science+Business Media and the European Mathematical Society (EMS) partnered to transform the Encyclopedia of Mathematics (EoM) into an open access wiki for the mathematics community (www.encyclopediaofmath.org). At the Postpress Commercial Information Days held in Leipzig from Nov. 1-11, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) unveiled an inline system combining a digital book production line from Hunkeler AG, Switzerland, and the Eurobind Pro adhesive binder. This makes it possible to switch between digital and offset print content on a single adhesive binder.
Although "business development in the past quarter was in line with our expectations," says Heidelberg CFO Dirk Kaliebe, the company anticipates that economic uncertainties will have a dampening effect on investment behavior in the sector during the second half of the financial year.
