I have a folder on my hard drive entitled PBC. PBC stands for the Publishing Business Conference & Expo, which is our big annual event, and which took place last week in New York. It was, I am pleased to say, a great success, with a fabulous roster of speakers and sessions and great feedback from happy attendees.
I and our team here in the Publishing Business Group worked on planning this conference for a very long time and, as the date got closer, conference planning became an ever-larger percentage of how we spent our time. In the last few weeks leading up to the conference, it was pretty much all we did, and my brain was packed to the point of exploding with details that needed to be attended to. During the last few months, we also added two new editors to our staff and they, Denis Wilson and Ellen Harvey, arrived on board amidst a pre-conference frenzy that I could only assure them, and hope they believed, was not real life at NAPCO.
When I click “save” now when I’m working in a document, that PBC folder is the first one to pop up. I have to say, I’m fairly relieved that I can click away now, and that my brain is gradually beginning to de-stress and turn its focus to future events, new business development, and upcoming issues of Book Business and Publishing Executive. But it also gives me pleasure to recollect some of the great people and inspiring content we had at our show.
We have begun providing you with session write-ups, and we will continue to bring you the best of PBC in future newsletters and in the magazines. We will also share with you some of the great video and photos that we captured. And, as always, we welcome your feedback. Were you there and would you like to send us some comments for publication? Please do! And send your ideas for what you’d like to see from us in the future in terms of articles and future conferences.
In addition to being pleased to file documents in non-PBC folders now, I’m also very glad to be back to this long-neglected blog. Thank you for your patience, and expect to hear from me much more frequently now!
