Experts in book app development and marketing gathered today at the Media App Summit in New York to talk tools for discoverability and profitability.

Panelists stressed that discoverability begins with a quality product and understanding your target market.

"I know first-hand how painful discovery can be in the app marketplace," Matt Cavnar, VP of business development at Vook, told the audience. Publishers, he pointed out, often still have trouble getting traction for a good product in an environment where app creation has gotten easier and cheaper.

has said it will expand its digital business internationally but will not bring its bricks and mortar stores abroad. At an app developer conference for its Nook tablet in London yesterday (19th March), members of the Nook team repeatedly refused to comment on when the device would go on sale in the United Kingdom. Claudia Romanini, director of developer relations, said: "In January we announced we were planning international expansion and beyond that its a no comment." The retailer has reportedly signed a deal with Waterstones to bring the Nook to the United Kingdom at some point during 2012.
