Flush with the early success of their Day One literary magazine, Amazon announced today that they are expanding their efforts with the launch of a new publishing imprint which will focus on short fiction. StoryFront is going to publish a variety of works, including new previously unpublished titles and translated works as well as stories originally published in Day One for purchase a la carte.

Amazon is reinventing the literary journal for the digital age with the advent of their new imprint, Day One. It will be a weekly publication dedicated to short fiction-including work from debut authors and stories from around the world translated into English-and poetry. Day One will showcase one writer and one poet per week. The first issue is available today and features the short story "Sheila," by Rebecca Adams Wright, and "Wrought," a poem by Zack Strait.

Amazon has wasted little time in filling a position that will be vacated by Larry Kirshbaum on January 17 when he steps down from his role as publisher of Amazon Publishing. Amazon Publishing editor-in-chief Daphne Durham has already assumed the responsibilities of publisher for Amazon's adult trade and children's publishing businesses, an Amazon spokesperson told Digital Book World. She will be based in Seattle.
