Wiley Increases Customization Options for its Custom Select Higher Education Program
John Wiley & Sons Inc. is now offering higher education instructors more options to customize their course materials through its Custom Select program. Launched in 2009, Wiley Custom Select enables these instructors to create custom texts and course materials online from a collection of books and lab manuals across all of Wiley's businesses. They also can add their own materials, and select e-book or print delivery for their students.
With the latest customization option, based on content in an XML format, instructors can select material and adjust the sequence at the chapter and sub-chapter levels. Faculty also can use the content editor to format editable text, rewrite sections, add and delete images, and insert math notation and chemical structures, and then preview the results before submitting them for publication and sale to students. This toolset will initially be available for a group of lab manuals, primarily in chemistry, anatomy and physiology and physics.
"By facilitating a greater degree of customization, Wiley Custom Select now empowers faculty to create instructional materials that directly support and reinforce what is going on in the classroom and laboratory and help students achieve success," says Iam Williams, director, Custom Learning Solutions. "It's an exciting new capability that benefits everyone.
"In almost every conversation we have had with faculty about Wiley Custom Select, the question was asked if they would ever be able to select sub-chapter content and edit those materials to suit their unique needs," he continues. "We now have a resounding 'Yes, you can!' response."
"The ability to select and edit at the sub-chapter level opens up great new possibilities," says John Meyer, director, content delivery technology. "It offers materials customized to exactly what instructors want to cover and what students need to learn."
