Acorn Guild Press Acquires Marion Street Press
Oak Park, Ill.-based Marion Street Press has been acquired by Acorn Guild Press, a Portland-based independent press owned by Jim Schuette and Kel Winter. The sale was effective March 1; financial terms were not disclosed.
As a result of the deal, Acorn Guild, which publishes books on folklore, poetry and related subjects, has acquired 38 Marion Street titles, including "The Art of Column Writing" and "The Concise Guide to Copy Editing." Marion Street is an independent publishing company that publishes practical books for writers and journalists.
According to Marion Street Founder and President Ed Avis, the time was ripe for selling the firm to a publisher capable of continuing to expand the brand.
"We're delighted to add the Marion Street Press brand, and we will continue to publish great books for writers and journalists," says Schuette.
Marion Street Press books are distributed by Independent Publishers Group (IPG). Acorn Guild plans to move its distribution to IPG.
