The Book Industry Environmental Council (BIEC), founded in 2008, set out to focus on two primary goals: tracking environmental progress of the book industry and setting an industry wide goal for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Today, the council—which consists of representatives from publishers, printers, paper manufacturers and suppliers, retailers and relevant nonprofit organizations—is asking for the industry's help in achieving these goals. It is conducting surveys to track the environmental progress of the book industry and is asking book publishers, printers and paper manufacturers to participate.
Each company's data will be kept anonymous, if requested. The surveys will close June 1.
"Your participation is critical to help the BIEC report accurately on the environmental progress of the book industry and identify where more work needs to be done," reported BIEC in a press release.
