Sony has consistently declined to reveal sales figures for the Reader, sparking speculation that the device has not been embraced by American consumers. This latest agreement with Borders comes just as Amazon is set to launch its own e-book device––the Kindle––in October.
The new, Sony–Borders co-branded online store will offer digital downloads of more than 20,000 books written by bestselling authors including Dean Koontz, Khaled Hosseini and Michael Connelly. Borders also said the store will eventually be integrated into its soon-to-be-relaunched Borders.com.
