Editor's Note: Harlequin Named Publishing Innovator of the Year
Book Business has named Toronto-based Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. Publishing Innovator of the Year in book publishing. The women's fiction publisher will be honored at an awards dinner to be held Monday, March 23, during the Publishing Business Conference & Expo at the New York Marriott Marquis.
Harlequin was singled out for several pioneering efforts, including being amongst the first publishers to launch a full-scale e-book program and to offer mobile content. It also was the first publisher to make all front-list titles available in e-book format, and to offer entire e-books enriched with interactive links to Web sites offering more information about the books' content. It also has led the industry through its innovative approaches to digital content with products such as Spice Briefs and Silhouette Nocturne Bites.
"Harlequin is thrilled and delighted to be named Book Business magazine's Publishing Innovator of the Year," says Harlequin Publisher and CEO Donna Hayes. "We are especially appreciative of this honor on the occasion of our 60th anniversary. Sixty years of pure reading pleasure means we are constantly innovating in order to meet the reader's evolving tastes, format choices and shopping experience, and will continue to do so."
