New York, NY (May 6, 2020) — The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) has announced plans for an online trivia event to be held via video conference on 21 May 2020, at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern) / 4:00 p.m. (Pacific), with all proceeds to benefit the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) and their work to support booksellers facing hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Open to BISG members and non-members, and featuring trivia questions about books, authors, and publishing, the hour-long online event will be held via Zoom and administered by CourseHorse, a New York City–based events platform.
Pam French, Executive Director of Binc, said, “We are excited to be a part of this fun event that brings book lovers from across the industry, and beyond, together. This community is exactly the reason Binc has been able to quickly help hundreds of booksellers since mid-March. Binc is proud to be part of this community and especially to partner with BISG.”
BISG Executive Director Brian O’Leary said, “Convening the industry, this time, to raise money to support booksellers who’ve been impacted by COVID-19, and share in a little levity, seems like a great way to rally together—and one that won’t contribute to virtual meeting fatigue. Fostering collaboration across the supply chain is vital to BISG’s core mission of creating a more informed, empowered, and efficient book industry. Though we miss the person-to-person connections inherent to global fairs, national conferences, and in-person gatherings, we’ve been able to successfully shift our programming to the web, in light of stay-at-home mandates and travel restrictions.”
In order to maximize the impact of the Bookish (Online) Trivia Fundraiser, BISG is matching all funds raised, dollar for dollar.
Registration for the Bookish (Online) Trivia event requires a minimum $5 donation. For more information, please visit bisg.org.
