Verso Introduces New Line of Lightweight Uncoated Printing Papers
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 29, 2009) – Verso Paper Corp. (NYSE:VRS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new line of lightweight uncoated web printing papers: VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM. This new product line is designed for use in both coldset and heatset printing applications and is available in a wide range of brightness levels. In addition, this group of uncoated products is focused on the lighter end of the basis weight range and further enhances and expands Verso's overall product portfolio.
"VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM represent an expansion of our product line and give us the ability to offer the uncoated grades required to meet a variety of needs for financial, educational, reference, magazine, catalog, insert and other publications," said Mike Weinhold, Verso's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "By adding this uncoated product line to our portfolio, we have enhanced the wide range of paper solutions that Verso offers to printers and end-users."
VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM will be produced on the No. 1 paper machine at Verso's mill in Bucksport, Maine. This is consistent with Verso's announcement on September 10, 2008, that it will transition the production from this paper machine from lightweight coated (LWC) paper to lightweight specialty paper. "Verso continues to strategically leverage the technical expertise of our manufacturing group, along with capital improvements, to expand our product offerings from the Bucksport mill. VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM are integral steps in this successful product transition," continued Mr. Weinhold.
The Bucksport mill is certified to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) chain of custody standard with certificate number PwC-PEFC-319. In addition, the Bucksport mill is certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody standard and was issued certificate number SW-COC-002775. Through the attainment of these certifications, Verso is better positioned (more) for giving customers the opportunity to purchase VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM as FSC, SFI and PEFC certified products. Verso also will offer VersobookTM, VersotextTM and VersoblendTM recycled-content options.
