Grand Central Publishing to Publish Tie-in to Broadway Video and the Hit IFC Show Portlandia
New York, NY—February 7, 2012 | Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, announced today that it will publish PORTLANDIA: A Guide for Visitors, the official guide to the city of “Portlandia,” written by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the creators and stars of the hit IFC show Portlandia, produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. The book will be available on November 20, 2012.
Presented like an authentic Lonely Planet or Fodor’s travel book, PORTLANDIA will guide readers through the city as they visit establishments and landmarks and meet the colorful residents who call Portlandia home—all with the same unique humor that brings the show to life.
The book was acquired by Ben Greenberg, Executive Editor. “Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Bill Oakley and Jon Krisel have created such a unique, surreal world in Portlandia, and the book will allow fans to explore that world even further.”
Season 2 of Portlandia premiered on IFC on January 6 to the highest ratings in IFC’s history. Fred Armisen is an actor, comedian and musician best known for his work as a longtime cast member on Saturday Night Live. Carrie Brownstein is a musician, writer and actress, known as guitarist and vocalist in the band Wild Fla/ and previously in Portland’s Sleater-Kinney. In 2006 she was the only woman to earn a spot in the Rolling Stone readers’ list of the "25 Most Underrated Guitarists of All-Time.”
Together Armisen and Brownstein created Portandia.
