Hachette Book Group Attains Gold Certification from Book Industry Study Group
(PRESS RELEASE) Hachette Book Group is pleased to announce that the company has been awarded Gold Certification from the Book Industry Study Group, the U.S. book trade association for supply chain standards, research and best practices.
The BISG conducts an annual review of title metadata through their Product Data Certification Program, with data assessed for completeness and quality by a panel of judges made up of major data recipients, such as Barnes and Noble and Ingram. Title metadata—all of the information associated with a book, from title and cover to rights information and reviews—is used by search engines and retailers and plays an essential role in the marketing and distribution of books and content. As content delivery and consumption continue to evolve, metadata remains the core information that makes it possible to find an author’s work in a crowded and complex marketplace.
Phil Madans, HBG’s Director of Publishing Standards and Practices, said, “Accurate, up-to-date metadata enables HBG to fulfill its primary goal to connect readers to our books and authors. We are proud to have been part of the BISG Product Data Certification Program since its inception, and thrilled to have achieved Gold Certification this year—it is a public acknowledgement of HBG’s commitment to supporting our authors and trading partners by providing the highest quality title data possible.”
Len Vlahos, Executive Director of BISG, noted, “It’s great to see that the production of quality product metadata continues to be a priority throughout the industry, and BISG is thrilled to be able to recognize and acknowledge companies that achieve that goal.”
