Hachette: Welcome to the Round Table
Hachette Book Group (HBG) has struck a licensing agreement with Round Table Companies that will give Round Table access to HBG’s proprietary digital content management system. The deal between the world’s second largest book publisher and the visionary upstart noted for turning classic business and non-fiction titles into comics and graphic novels is aimed at Round Table developing a consumer storefront app. Round Table’s goal is to launch an iPad app with 13 titles.
HBG has been working on a suite of products with an eye toward assisting its publishers develop applications; it will also be offered as a service to other publishers. The framework works in real-time and allows direct interaction with consumers via push, feedback, analytics and direct sales.
“Finding a way to create less expensive apps is a challenge for publishers,” says Todd McGarity, HBG’s VP of Distribution Sales & Services. ”So leveraging this HBG capability was a natural fit for Round Table.”
Round Table concurs. According to David C. Cohen, VP and Chief Strategist for Round Table Companies, “As a boutique publisher who serves both best-selling and first time authors, this app will allow us access to quality, intuitive programming for both our traditional books and graphic novels.
