It's my favorite day of the year: National Book Lovers Day!
Of course, I didn't even know at first that this special holiday was today. I didn't even know this holiday existed, to tell the truth, before this afternoon, when I started getting emails and texts from friends and family. For me, every single minute of every single day is book lover's day.
But hey, what a great reason to celebrate today! Everybody take the night off and go home and read! And to kick off your celebration, here's a round up of some fun NBL blogs and comments.
The Inquisitr takes a look at some Pew Research Center studies on levels of reading in different demographics and warns us that: "'50 Shades of Grey' doesn't count." Hamlet Hub points you toward their Books, Inc. section for recommendations for summer reading and more. Blogger Jill Weatherholt talks a bit about her book hoarding tendencies. LitzyDitz has some fun reasons for loving books, along with an amusing video of a Rube Goldberg-like contraption that assists in the reading process.
In a few more posts of note, Huff Po Chicago points us toward some great indie bookstores, and Stellar Four provides some concrete assignments we can carry out (read/buy/give a book, support a kickstarter campaign for an author). Interestingly, almost every one of these posts uses the same art: a photo of an open book, spine down, with the two innermost pages folded up and in to make the shape of a heart. Awww....
And finally, in a lovely coincidence for me, National Day Calendar tell us today is also National Rice Pudding Day. It's two, two, two treats in one!
