Printing hardcover books on-demand just got a little easier for a Massachusetts-based library and on-demand binding company.
Bridgeport National Bindery Inc. of Agawam recently installed a Bookmaster360 to produce its hardcover books in quantities as low as a single copy. Producing small quantities of hardbound books with current on-demand binding operations typically averages five to seven days, says Bruce Jacobsen, vice president of Bridgeport National Bindery.
"We expect the arrival of this machine to change that," he says. "It will help us to meet our goal of a three-day turnaround."
The Bookmaster360, manufactured by bielomatik inc. of Neuffen, Germany, features a cold-glue technology that produces a traditional rounding of the spine and a lay-flat book, as well as an ability to manufacture higher-quality hardcover books using a variety of materials and sizes, says Jacobsen.
Bridgeport National Bindery has provided on-demand case binding and other book manufacturing services to printers and publishers since the early 1990s.
The Bookmaster360 also features fully variable production of soft-cover and hardcover books without setup times and paper waste, according to bielomatik's Web site.
