Simon & Schuster Inc. has launched Simon & Schuster on Foursquare, a location-based mobile social networking community of more than 5 million users that allows them to "check in" at their location.
S&S Foursquare offers its users the opportunity to get "on-the-go" tips from an array of S&S books when they check in at a Foursquare location. For example, according to S&S, users can learn more about the places they are visiting, from facts about historic landmarks to what dish their favorite chef enjoys at a restaurant, or information about sports, health, history, politics, fiction and more.
S&S Foursquare tips include:
- "Brooklyn Story" author Suzanne Corso tells fans where they can find the best cannoli in her neighborhood.
- National Book Award winner Carlos Eire reveals his connections to Monticello.
- At the Lincoln monument, check in to learn how many copies of The Gettysburg Address Lincoln wrote by hand.
On Jan. 11, as a kick-off for S&S Foursquare, the publisher ran a check-in promotion at its corporate headquarters in New York City. Foursquare users that checked in at the S&S building received a free copy of the new title "Gideon's War" by Howard Gordon, the debut novel by the longtime executive producer of the TV series "24." According to S&S, it plans to continue growing its Foursquare program, offering followers more special content, rewards and access.
"With S&S Foursquare, we can deliver our book and author content right into the hands of fans and readers at their immediate points of interest, and the platform gives us the opportunity to drive real-world action through social media by directing people to physical locations and events," says Rob Goodman, director of online marketing.
