The Media Services Group Buys the Cat’s Pajamas
The Media Services Group (MSGL), a leading provider of integrated publishing and event management software, has acquired The Cat’s Pajamas, developer of the Cat’s Pajamas book publishing system.
Terms of the acquisition, which closed on Jan. 24, provide for the maintenance of The Cat’s Pajamas offices and staff in Burlington, Wash. as a division of MSGL. MSGL currently owns, sells and supports two other book publishing software applications, BookWorks and CISPUB.
“To be number one in this market you need to have great software, great customers, great support and great people,” said Jeff Shine, president and CEO of The Media Services Group. “The Cats acquisition helps us in achieving all of these goals.”
With a combined customer base of nearly 400 publishers and with offices across North America, Canada and the United Kingdom, MSGL services more media businesses than any other publishing software company in its market, according to MSGL.
“We couldn’t be happier with the arrangement,” said Wayne Olson, founder of The Cat’s Pajamas. “With The Media Services Group, we have found a wonderful path forward for our customers, our staff and our software.”
In addition to uninterrupted support of the current Cat’s Pajamas software and customer base, the new office in Burlington, Wash. will also participate in the continued development of MSGL’s next generation book publishing platform, Élan Book. Work is already underway to integrate Cat’s Pajamas system into the unified SQL database architecture, which will allow Cat’s customers to operate on Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Express or Oracle. Release is scheduled for later this year.
