Word!

My friends who love food, who always know about the latest, hippest restaurant and whose idea of fun is spending three hours in a cheese shop, have a name for their passion: they are “foodies.” So what about us, the typo-finding, dictionary-reading folks who think Grammar Girl is a hoot and who, when we’re not reading, spend our time talking about what we’ve read recently—are we “wordies”? I say yes!
To my fellow wordies out there, I want to point you toward a fun wordie website I’ve been browsing around, that of dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster. You can find word games to play, look up (and subscribe to!) the word of the day (it’s “solstitial” today) and find out the most frequently looked-up words in the past day (boson) and week (touché).
If you have any plans to take your wordie selves to a beach this summer, and think you might run into any sea creatures while there, then you will most certainly want to view this video: http://www.merriam-webster.com/video/0015-octopus.htm
