Cengage Learning Signs Agreement with California State University to Provide Discounted eTextbooks
Stamford, CT – February 22, 2012 – Cengage Learning, a leading global provider of print and digital teaching, learning and research solutions, today announced an agreement with California State University (CSU), the largest university system in the country, to provide discounted eTextbooks to students as part of the Affordable Learning Solutions campaign. One of the largest digital resources contracts signed by a university system, this three-year contract will allow more than 400,000 students on 23 campuses to access Cengage Learning eTextbooks at a substantial cost savings.
The Affordable Learning Solutions campaign is part of a CSU initiative to help control the cost of education for students. Cengage Learning was selected as a partner by CSU following an extensive request for proposals process. Beyond just a select number of campuses and courses, Cengage Learning will be providing eTextbooks for all academic disciplines and departments.
“We’re excited about the opportunities that are emerging as our industry moves from print to digital and institutions look to work directly with publishers. At Cengage Learning, we’ve anticipated these changes and have organized our sales team to better align with customers’ needs,” said Rich Foley, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Cengage Learning. “We look forward to working with CSU and other universities to offer our unparalleled content and pedagogically-driven homework and assessment solutions.”
“We are always looking at how we can best connect our faculty and students to the most engaging educational content at the best price,” said Gerard L. Hanley, PhD., Senior Director of Academic Technology Services, California State University. “Our agreement with Cengage Learning is a win for the CSU system, for the publishers, and, most importantly, for the students.”
Cengage Learning eTextbooks can be purchased by CSU students through their campus bookstore and CengageBrain.com. The eTextbooks are device and Learning Management System (LMS) agnostic, can be accessed online or offline, and include interactive capabilities such as note-taking and highlighting.
