Travel-guidebook publisher Frommer’s and Whatsonwhen, a leading provider of online travel products and services—both John Wiley and Sons imprints—have created the Borders Trip Recommender for Borders’ new Travel Kiosk. The kiosk has been installed in a Borders concept store in Ann Arbor, Mich., and will be rolled out nationwide over the next several months.
The Borders Trip Recommender consists of several digital travel-information and -planning tools that will allow customers to plan a vacation that matches their interests and budget, and get recommendations on destinations around the world, as well as suggestions for guidebooks with more detailed information. The Trip Recommender prompts the user to enter information about the type of trip they would like to take and provides customized destination recommendations. Users can then click on one of the suggested destinations provided by the Trip Recommender to access relevant books, DVDs and other resources on that locale selected by Borders Travel category buyers. Users also can access a “Popular U.S. & International Destinations” feature, which provides access to Frommer’s data on more than 100 U.S. and international destinations, as well as travel articles written by Pauline Frommer exclusively for Borders customers. After they have completed their research, customers can book their trip online right at the kiosk.
“The Travel Kiosk is designed to provide unprecedented in-store access to a variety of travel-planning tools and resources, as well as expert recommendations on destination-specific books and other resources, so customers can research and plan the best trip possible,” says Larry Olson, vice president and director of marketing for Wiley. “We’re thrilled to offer such dynamic and forward-thinking travel-planning tools that make the trip-planning experience exceptionally smooth and easy.”
