Estimated number of books printed per month by Harvard Bookstore's Espresso Book Machine according to a February Bloomberg Businessweek article. As the Cambridge, Mass., store's owner, Jeff Mayersohn, tells Businessweek's John Tozzi, about two-thirds of the books printed are by self-published authors. Authors are charged a $70 set-up fee and then $10 per 200-page book (with volume discounts). According to Bowker, the company that assigns ISBNs, in 2010 there were 133,000 self- published titles compared to 51,000 just four years prior.

Percent of avid book buyers who refuse to go paperless
A Verso Advertising (versoadvertising.com) study found that avid book buyers are increasingly resistant to joining to the e-book "revolution"—up from 40 percent in 2009.
Their study looks at "avid" book buyers—those who purchase more than 10 books per year. Approximately 35 percent of avid book readers are between 45 and 54 years old.
According to Verso, 22.3 percent of avid buyers already own an e-reader, while 10.1 percent say that they are very likely to purchase one within the year.
However, 49.7 percent of avid book buyers, compared to just 2.1 percent of regular book buyers, allegedly shudder at the thought of a digital book. According to the study's authors Jack McKeown and Denise Berthiaume, avid buyers often report experiencing screen fatigue and view books as an escape from omnipresent LED screens. Also, these avid buyers prefer the book shop experience over browsing the Web.
