Lightning Source Inc., a leading provider of demand-based book manufacturing and distribution solutions, announced this week that it will establish a third book manufacturing facility in Lehigh County, Pa.
The new 130,000-square-foot manufacturing center will be Lightning Source’s second U.S. facility, and its third worldwide. The company said the facility is expected to open in June. The company’s headquarter facility is based in LaVergne,Tenn., near Nashville. A second facility, established in Britain in 2001, is located in Milton Keynes, England, near London.
The new U.S. center is expected to expand capacity, speed of service for publishers in Northeast, Lightning Source representatives said. When fully operational, the new Pennsylvania facility will house 16 black-and-white presses, 10 web-fed color presses, five sheet-fed color presses and 12 binding lines.
“This is an important step for us and our valued customers who need high quality and speed to properly serve their customers in the book industry,” said J. Kirby Best, president and CEO of Lightning Source.
According to the company, the location was chosen because of its proximity to all the large, metropolitan areas of the Eastern United States.
Lightning Source acquired 15 new state-of-the-art Océ printing presses for its global operation in October 2006.
“The new facility and our recent addition of new equipment is a significant capital investment by Lightning Source in the book publishing industry,” said Best.
