New Brown Novel Will Have Largest First Print Run in Random House History
Dan Brown's new novel, a follow-up to his "The Da Vinci Code"—which was the best-selling hardcover adult novel of all time with 81 million copies in print worldwide—will be released in the United States and Canada by Random House imprint Doubleday Sept. 15, announced Sonny Mehta, chairman and editor-in-chief of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.
"The Lost Symbol" will have a first printing of 5 million copies, the largest first print run in Random House Inc. history, according to the company.
"This is a great day for readers and book-sellers," says Mehta. "… This is one of the most anticipated publications in recent history, and it was well worth the wait."
"This novel has been a strange and wonderful journey," says Brown. "Weaving five years of research into the story's 12-hour timeframe was an exhilarating challenge."
The audio version of "The Lost Symbol" will be published in North America in September by Random House Audio.
"The Da Vinci Code," published by Doubleday on March 18, 2003, spent 144 weeks on The New York Times Hardcover Fiction best-seller list, 54 of them at No. 1—the position at which it debuted. The novel has been translated into 51 languages.
